Gaming While Busy

I miss posting multiple times per week, but work has been absolutely crazy busy this fall.  It's great for us at work, but I haven't had a whole lot of extra energy to write about gaming.

That's not to say I haven't made time to actually play games.  I'm on vacation now for all of next week so I'm hoping to catch up on posting.  But, I wanted to touch base first and let you know generally what I've been up to.

I'm still playing Starcraft 2 at least a few times each week.  It's amazing to me that this game is so fun after a year and a half of playing it.  I don't anticipate it falling out of my gaming rotation any time soon.

I'm slowly working my way through Final Fantasy II on the ipod touch.  I'm getting to the point where I just want to finish it, but it can still be fun in small doses.

I bought and beat (100%) Batman Arkham City.  I loved the game, so I definitely need to get a post up about it soon.

I've been dabbling in Battlefield 3, League of Legends Dominion, and the Tribes Ascend beta.

Not to mention that Skyrim has absolutely dominated my gaming time since it came out on the 11th.

Each of those games has at least one post attached to it, so hopefully I can crank out a bunch of them for you lovely readers this week.  I did want to mention that of all these games I might be the most excited for Tribes Ascend.  I'll have to check out the NDA to see what I can write about it, but overall this is a PC shooter that I would love to see succeed.  If you care about FPS on the PC even remotely you should watch this video by Total Biscuit.

Latest Board Gaming

Besides video games I also regularly play board games when I'm hanging out with people face to face.  My brother, my wife, and I end up playing a lot of 3 player board games, but sometimes we get other players involved too. I realized I haven't talked much about what I've been playing in the world of board games, so here goes: Ticket to Ride - We own 3 different base versions of Ticket to Ride, 2 expansion sets, and an extra map set.  We love this game.  This is the game that gets the most overall table time when I'm playing board games with friends.  It's super accessible but still holds fun for people who have been playing the game for a long time.  I recommend this as a great beginner board game for anyone. Masquerade - A hidden role game where roles are constantly switching hands.  You're limited in actions on your turn and can only take one action.  This means that a lot of the time you're not entirely sure what role you currently have.

Games of the Year 2022: In Conclusion

This running Games of the Year list has been an interesting experiment.  I decided to start this series right as we were shutting down the Geek to Geek podcast as a way to keep creatively broadcasting some gaming thoughts out into the world.  I learned a few things from sticking with it this year. The main thing I learned is... I just don't have as much desire to broadcast my thoughts out in public as I used to when I started this blog or when I started podcasting.  I still love to have in-depth discussions about current games and general geekery, but I feel less and less need to broadcast those thoughts widely.  Honestly, it's been over a decade of blogging and podcasting at this point.  It would be more surprising if my relationship with the media landscape hadn't  changed.
